Lovely, glorious power! Oh how I love thee! So warm and inviting and full of the promise of running water.
Yes the long national nightmare is over the power is finally back on! Weee! Four days of using the house as a camper while we 'camped' in the woods without water/power hook-ups was enough camping experience to last me for a long, long time too, let me tell you. No........................thanks................ (Though honestly, I can deal with no power waaaaaaAAaaaaaaYyy better than the no water thing. *twitch*)
It came on *just* at the right time too. It was much hotter out yesterday than the first part of the week and we had a smokey sweaty time at lunch grilling up 3lbs. of slab bacon that I *JUST* purchased from a local smokehouse last week and YOU ALL KNOW I wasn't going to let that get thrown out. (Throw out good local oh-my-god bacon? YOU GOT TO HELL for that kind of behavior!) That normally would have lasted me a few months as we don't eat more than a bit here and there but NOM NOM NOM we declared yesterday Bacon Day and had bacon sandwiches for lunch *AND* dinner.
This was how much was left after our lunchtime chow down. I STILL have some left after dinner too!
So seeing as I was already sweaty from that, I decided to tackle the grossness that was the fridge. Gross because a pumpkin pie in the freezer, uh, leaked out Monday morning while we were out getting ice to fill the coolers to save some of that stuff. Ugh. Stupid !@$!@#$!@#!$@#$ pie! Made a sticky mess out of everything. (And I don't even eat pie. You couldn't PAY me to eat that baby-food/turd looking stuff. NO MORE EXTRA pies for him in the freezers! Pffffttt.)
The kitchen floor has been a bloody mess since Monday too thanks to that bloody pie ooze being tracked around a bit on the floor in our mad haste to sort out trash vs. things to save/give to my Mother that morning once we had some ice. (Which you don't even WANT to know how far we had to drive to find.) I Swiffered it. A lot. Did nothing. Still all stickified and gross.
So seeing as I was all sweaty and hot and miserable and OMG PLEASE MAKE IT END-like already yesterday afternoon, I figured I would try scrubbing it by hand with soapy water and a scrubby cloth. (Serves me right, I guess, for not having a 'real' mop in the house. What can I say? I LOVES my Swiffer!) So not fun. When I was finished with that I was hot enough to die so I laid on my back in the hall right there by the kitchen doorway and told him to just leave me there until I rotted away and THAT IS THE EXACT MOMENT THE POWER CAME BACK ON.
How's that for the dramatics and stuff? Couldn't have played it better CL&P!
Now I hope that everybody else come back soon too because things are getting desperate out there, you know? The local news site is getting ugly. They have been getting 15-20% of the people back on every day around here but just 10 miles down south on the highway, there are towns that are *still* with 85-100% outages. (100%!!! Five days later! Man, my MIL must be lucky she doesn't live in North Stonington any more because that's one of the 100%-ers.) My town is still about 40-45% out so there is still a LOT of work to do.
Last night was a mad dash to do loads of laundry, run the dishwasher, vacuum, get the fridge going, fill the fridge from the coolers once it was cool, grilling up about 10lbs. of meat I had saved from the freezer (2 packs of regular sausage/kielbasa from that smokehouse, two packs of chicken breast, chicken sausage, still need to deal with a couple steaks and some ground chicken tonight....sigh) put all the camping stuff away, WORK on beads for a few hours (!!!) and, oh course, take nice long hot hot non-chlorinated showers. :)
I still have a mess of emails to answer but you know what? I'm taking today OFF! Heading down the beach where my mother lives in about a half hour and hope to have some beach sand in my toes by noon. :)
Thanks so much for all the support, you guys!!! You guys rock. *MWAH*

Yea! Hope the weather treats you better for while.
So glad you've got power now! Enjoy your day at the beach :)
Wow - so good to hera that your home is getting back to normal. What a week!
Yay for power!! I think if someone wanted to bring this nation to its knees - cut the electricity and water....
WOO HOOO!! Thank heaven for fantastically-timed power influxes! I'm sure that shower felt like the best thing ever. Enjoy the beach...I'll be there with you in spirit!
Loss of power makes one appreciate it all the more. I know I would not have made a very good Pioneer Woman for sure! Isn't bacon the foundation of the Food Pyramid? It is for our family anyway!
Glad to hear the power is back on. What a nightmare! A day at the beach sounds great. Can I come?! The beach here is freezing!
Oh my gosh!! I am behind, as always, on blog reading and just got caught up on your blog. I am so glad that you came out of the storm unscathed, even if it is with having a whole bunch to clean and sort and a ton of meat to chow down on. Hang in there!
I'm rushing here. We just got our power back too! We lost it around 5:30pm Sunday when I thought we'd made it through. The basement flooding was baaaad too. So the plumbers are putting a new water heater in as we speak. Can't wait for a hot shower!!!!!!!!!!!! It was bad. Bad bad. But we made it through, right? The basement is going to be a pain, but we're safe. Yay! Congrats on having your power back. Isn't it great? I'm so happy!
YAY!!! *Claps enthusiastically* I am SO glad that it's back on for you!!! Thank heavens for power AND showers. You totally deserve a day at the beach so I hope you are having a great day!
Glad things are starting to get back to normal for you!
SO glad to hear you have power! So funny about your dramatic scene and the power coming back on. You should have done that earlier!
Glad the power is back.
The longest we've gone without power is about 18 hours after Hurricane Charley. It pays to have the firehouse and college on the same grid you are. ;-)
But, we've gone without water when some dingbat ran over the circuit and killed the pump and then ran over the replacement pump! @@ :::rolling my eyes:::
I found out we didn't have water after pumping soap in my hand BEFORE turning on the water. LOL
sheeesh, I am glad that it is getting better!! Irene packed quite a punch!
We had bacon for dinner last night ~ yummo!
Have a great weekend.
What a time you have had!
Bacon sandwiches, yummy!!!
Enjoy your visit to the beach
Take care x
I'm SO glad to hear that Melanie! And you're right, it couldn't have happened at a better time ;o)
Okay, I love bacon too but that's A LOT of ba-con!
