How is everybody's summer going?

Me, I can tell the gas prices have gone down because I've been inundated with bead orders this past week, letmetellyouwhat. (It really is a GREAT barometer for the nation's mood re: gas prices. Makes sense though, right?) So things have been a bit 'boring' lately because I've been spending so much time on that. I even had to work Saturday last week and I NEVER do that. Sundays I almost always work and I'm cool with that. Saturdays? I like Saturday for lazing around. (I'm not really complaining about it so you can put your tiny violin away. lol)

I started another Cookie A sock but lace socks aren't terribly exciting to look at while being worked on. See:
*yawn*

I even added a flower there for 'production value' but, nope, still boring to look at. Lace knitting is like that. It likes to scrunch all together like a used tissue. It's only once it's done and you can wash and block it does it really look like something worth your time.

Despite being really busy lately we did take some time to go see our first summer flick.

I liked it. It's like a 'feel good' alien movie and how often do you come across one of those? It's kind of nice to see a summer flick where the United States isn't completely destroyed and ruined at the end of it. lol
Now I'm  just counting the days until Harry Potter comes out. *grin*
(Though I think I'd like to maybe see the X-Men one next week. Worth it y/n?)

Mostly though I've been doing some reading. I finally managed to get around to the Hunger Games trilogy. Hello, finished all three in less than 48 hours. For real. Sleeping is for BABIES. I can sleep when I'm dead! It's been a long while since I read a book(s) that seduced me into staying up until dawn to finish it. You should definitely try them if you like to read fiction!

Now I'm slogging through this sloggy, soggy 4th book in the Songs of Fire and Ice series. It starts off slow, slower, SLOWER STILL (!!!) but I'm determined to finish ASAP so I can get to the 'prize' of the 5th book that comes out in a couple weeks. (If that sounds odd - to be excited by the next book when this one is boring - it's because of the structure of these books. All of the 'good' characters are lumped into that 5th book, while this 4th one is comprised of all new characters or people that, up until this point in the series, haven't been very exciting.)

What else should I be reading this summer???? I'm always open to suggestions. :)
I'm sure I'll get to the new Sookie Stackhouse at some point and I still have two books from LAST summer that I never got to. (The Help and The Imperfectionists. I KNOW - I'm the last person on earth to read The Help. Believe me, I KNOW. lol I *WILL* get to it this summer. *WILL* It's sitting on the shelf MOCKING ME and looking at me cross-eyed when I walk by at this point.)

The socks are pretty, not boring. :D I've been reading things here and there, but nothing outstanding yet this summer. There are definitely some good books out there though. Glad your bead orders are flowing in. Let's hope the gas prices continue to go down!

I *just* bought Hunger Games because it seemed to be popping up all over the place on GoodReads and had such positive reviews. I'm halfway through another book right now, so it' still waiting to be read but I'm glad to hear that it's a good story (and a fast read!

You really *must* read The Help - fabulous book! I have the second Flavia de Luce mystery (The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag) waiting in the wings too - I'm still on the fence about this series so am hoping I enjoy this one a little better than the first.

nope I think I'm the last one to read The Help .. at least you put a time frame to when you'll read it! lol

I'm really looking forward to see Super 8. I've heard from so many people how good it is. My son took me to see the latest X-Men movie for Mothers Day ... I loved it!

We're seeing Transformer 3 tonight at the 11:22pm opening! lol :)

Those socks look pretty gorgeous to me as is.

And who knew that hand made glass beads were a leading economic indicator!

I'm reading "The Confession" by John Grisham and really enjoying it. But I love all his books.

Glad to hear you've been busy, busy with your beads, Melanie! And what an amazing color for your new socks.

Still laughing at your "I can sleep when I'm dead" comment--I wish I could read more. Reading always, always manages to put me to sleep. I wish I could stay awake and read all night like you!

Have a great 4th of July weekend!

Yes, the Hunger Games Trilogy is fantastic!! I just finished the first book in the Song of Fire.... that was a looong one, but quite good - picked up the second one from the library today - gotta finish what I'm reading currently so I can hop on this one.

You may find your socks un-inspring but the yarn colour sure is pretty.

I just started Hunger Games, I just wrapped up chapter 3 now it hasn't "grabbed me" yet like it has so many but I hope it will soon! I stole all 3 out of my library for the sumemr!

Lucky you, reading The Hunger Games! I miss being in the middle of the stories--what a great series. I just read Divergent, which is supposed to be along the same lines--and my DD said she, too, has a movie deal--but it was like one of those "I know that series did well, so I'll do the same but with different names" type of things. Yawn. Then I finished Fallen, which did the same based on the Twilight series. Double yawn. I did enjoy Angelology and Discovery of Witches. They're not super amazing but very enjoyable. The latest Sookie book was ehh. Nothing amazing. That you haven't read The Help yet? I am insanely jealous. L-O-V-E-D that book. Read it before the movie comes out!!

Enjoy your weekend!

Melanie, you are just too funny :o)

I just finished The Forest Horses and it was awesome! I had a hard time getting into it but I think that was just my mood but it was well worth the read. A Canadian author too :o)
