Bad storm, bad.

Been working on a post for a few days, taking pictures and stuff, but it's been rudely interupted by this:

And this:

And this:

And a big pile of ALL our (now useless) winter/fall outer wear strewn all over my downstairs area.

Our well got hit by a lightening during a big storm Saturday afternoon........which we didn't notice until our fire alarms went off late that night (2am). We didn't use much water that night (take out for supper, no dish washing or laundry, etc) so it wasn't noticed and when he took shower before bed (which seemed fine) that overloaded whatever was left of our water system at that point and set it to smoldering and, eventually, on fire.

So thank you for working fire alarms. Thanks to me for shutting off the a/c when I go to bed because I don't like not being to hear what is going on in the house (wouldn't have heard the alarm in that part of the house until it was much, much worse). And thankfully I didn't do dishes or anything while the storm was actually going on because if the well pump had been running when it was hit the whole house would have gone up instead of it stopping at the pump switch because the conduit was closed.

On the bad side, my well/water system was completely ruined from soup to nuts, along with some insulation and everything in the closet near there is a wreck with smoke damage. On the good side, it only took them two days to replace everything and get the water back. On the bad side, that cost over $6,000 to set it back to rights. *cringe* (And that's not including the lawn items that were lost in the process of rewiring the well, like the bushes, plants, and grass.)

On the good-good side, the house is still standing and insurance doesn't seem like it's going to fight the claim. And they are sending someone to pick up our winter jackets and stuff to try and clean it. So in the end it's not by any means a tragedy. Just another life experience. I might want to be careful for a while though while my 'luck' fills up again because I'm pretty sure I used all mine up for the moment. :)

Oh Melanie, I am so glad it turned out as it did. Not glad it happened at all, no. We just know that it could have been so much worse. Take care.

YOWZA! Glad you, hubby and the cats are all okay.

But, what a MESS! Hope it is all set to right soon.

In the meantime . . . you will need to knit your nerves away.

How awful! That is one nasty turn of events. At least no one is hurt and the fixers got their act together to fix things up quickly. I can see you knitting winter coats to replenish.

Oh no, how dreadful. So pleased your things can be replaced and no one was hurt during this sad event.

Oh my goodness! Thank heavens everything worked out as good as it did, under the circumstances :S

Yikes that was an ultra super close call in so many ways. You and yours are unharmed and your house is still standing. That makes for a Big Win.

So glad you all are okay!! Glad they seem to be on top of the repairs! Will your insurance cover the landscaping? My parents had a car crash into their yard some years back, and their homeowners covered the landscape repairs.

Oh my goodness! Well I'm glad it was no worse than it was. And hopefully insurance covers it all. Ouch! Wow!! Sorry for all your trouble -- I feel your pain....

Thank God you had insurance and that it will cover everything! Glad you heard the alarm early on... I know what you mean about the noisy AC... but I apparently sleep through lots of noise right now. I flip--light sleeper, heavy sleeper... don't know what triggers it! Big hugs to you!

After experiencing two different houses being struck by lightning, I know what you mean by "just another life experience". So glad to hear that you all are ok and more damage wasn't done.

So so thankful this was not much worse! Also thankful for insurance! You sound like you're handling everything pretty well.

Oh, Melanie, what a horrid experience! But, how lucky you were that it wasn't even worse and that you have good insurance coverage.

You sound like you need a big hug so I'm sending one your way along with my sincere hopes that that is the end of the natural disasters for you... Hang in there!

Woah! Well I think you can be forgiven for not posting for a couple days. So glad to hear that you are ok and that it was not as bad as it could have been!

Oh lordy, I'm glad no one was hurt. What an inconvenience. I am sitting in our sun room watching a storm come through and hoping our farmers market in town are all ok. Lightening is scary stuff.

Wow. So glad that that your house didn't go up in smoke and that you are all okay! It's good to hear that the house insurance will cover it as well...that's a big relief too.
