Checking in to say..

 Yay!!! :)

My part of CT (eastern edge) didn't get hammered TOO badly, all things considered. Nothing like the hurricane last year where it seemed like every other tree was snapped in HALF and pretty much everyone was without power. I still have PTSD from last year's storm so I'm very thankful for THAT!! :)

Where my mother lives in Rhode Island, down by the coast, is a whole 'nother story. She got the worst of it this time vs. the last one and the beaches and sea wall are just DECIMATED in areas.

She lives about 4 blocks from the sea wall/Coast Guard house in Narragansett, which got pummeled like crazy. Parts of the wall are broken/gone and there is massive erosion everywhere.

Close by in Westerly, RI is just awful. This beach road has remained pretty much the same for my entire life and I've been down it dozens and dozens of times - I used to go clubbing there with friends for a few years after graduating high school. (Nothing better when you are young than a club....on the beach.........with a Naval base nearby. :))

All gone or pretty much ruined. The road is 4-6 feet deep with sand and the beach is completely eroded. (This WAS a regular paved street and the main artery to the heavily used public beach and those businesses were never THAT close to the water.) So sad to see and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected - not just in the areas that I know and love. There is so much rebuilding to do, I don't know where you even begin. :(

I tend to have a lot of nervous energy during such things and I knit like a mad fiend throughout the whole storm. (While catching up on Homeland. Uhhh, how great is this show?) So my big, fat skein of Kauni is now floofy and empty and the finish line is in sight on this autumnal scarf 'thing'.

We didn't do much for Halloween, didn't even bother passing out candy to be honest. I think all the storm prep and stress building up to things took the wind out of our sails re: holiday fun. I still enjoyed the heck out of my blacker-than-black Halloween 'pine' tree (see: Grandin Road decorating) with it's blinky-blink lights and purple bat garland. I'm sure it looked like a regular ole Xmas tree from the street but it was mostly for me ANYWAY. I will be sad to pack it all up this weekend.

I can't even imagine the size of the areas that have been impacted by Sandy. It just seems overwhelming when viewed from far away. I cannot conceive of what it must be like "up close and personal".

Oh, I'm so very sorry to see the devastation in your mom's area, Melanie--I can't even imagine how hard it must be on everyone near the coast...

Good thing you had your pretty knitting to occupy your mind during the storm (it was VERY scary wasn't it?!)... Our Halloween trick-or-treating was postponed until Saturday due to the storm. It felt very strange last night not passing out candy.

I hope Mother Nature gives us all a break for a while--hang in there!

Glad to hear that you are safe, i can't imagine all the devastation, we moan about the UK weather constantly but thankfully never see things like this, it must be awful.
At least you knit up a storm on your scarf, love the colours :-)

How good is Homeland?? a real is he isn't he.
Are you watching the 1st series or the 2nd? I'm recording the 2nd series as it has been aired here at the same time as Downton, but as it's the last Downton this Sunday i will be catching up on Homeland next week.

Take care x

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the storm. We still don't know how my FIL's beach house fared. No one has been on the island yet. :-(

My hope is that all that is rebuilt is better and stronger. It certainly will not be the beaches of our youth, but it could be improved if rebuilt with care.

As for Halloween, this was our slowest year ever. Maybe 8 or so little kids, a few more than that teens and preteens and by 7:45 --- it was done. :-( I remember years when I handed out 15 bags of candy.

This year there are plenty of leftovers. We are taking them to a local restaurant that has a candy bowl by the check out. I sure don't need it tempting me here. LOL

So glad you are OK!!! My hubby's grandma lost everything in hurricane Camille (like, the entire house, GONE...every picture from her whole life...GONE) so I can at least understand a little what people are dealing with, but STILL. It's just disconcerting to see places you hung out when you were younger change, much less get decimated. {{{hugs}}}

Oh my gosh. My heart goes out to everybody affected by the storm. I can't imagine all that devastation.

Love the knitting! We love Homeland, too--it's such a good show! Between that, Friday Night Lights (we're on the third season), and The Walking Dead, we are LOVING TV at the moment.

Glad to hear that Sandy didn't beat you up too much. It was the same here where I live. Just a lot of wind and rain and branches down. I feel for some of those coastal areas that got pounded.
Have not yet started my Kauni, just don't know what to do with it. Yours looks great!
