Good news/Bad news

Good news: Knitpicks new Chroma yarns knits up quite beautifully. It's a great alternative to the (to me) scratchy, splitty Noro yarns that have similiar gradient coloring.

Bad news: I knit these in a size large for him, he wore them the other day, washed them and.............HOLY FRAKKIN' SHRINKAGE. :( I didn't notice the tag said 'hand wash', *ahem*, and all our knit socks go in the machine wash. (In a lingerie bag, always cold water, line dry. It works fine for MOST of the things I knit.) Needless to say, they no longer fit him. I have two more skeins of this, in the Fossil color, I will now *not* be turning into socks like planned. Grrrr!

Somewhat Good News: they still fit *me* fine (yay for having small feet!) but I really owed him a pair of socks and after knitting for two weeks on something for him..................I *still* owe him a pair of socks. *sigh*

(I seem to be having a small run of bad knitting mojo in 2011. Pfffft. Happily, my glass mojo and stitching mojo are still healthy. *knock on wood*)

Oh, no! Well, they are beautiful socks, regardless of size. I'm making a note for myself in case I decide to order some of that yarn.

Pretty colors anyway. What are your favorite sock yarns for knitting?

Those are such pretty socks. I'm glad that at least you can wear them, but to have to knit a pair again must be kind of frustrating.

Well look at it this way -- you now have a pretty pair of socks. lol! Bummer about the shrinkage!

That rots! Poor guy just can't catch a break ;o) LOL! At least you can still put them to good use.

The socks are BEAUTIFUL! And, at least they fit SOMEBODY...........but, BUMMER!

I had that happen with a pair of Mountain Colors Bearfoot. They still fit, but they have that "felted" feel rather than the soft, drapey feel of a sock. :-(

Love the color - but the shrinkage is not good. Yeah, handwashing socks would be a no go in this house as well. I am glad they still fit you though.

oooh no...It's so annoying when you invested so much time and effort in something. But all is not lost, still fits you, and the colour is gorgeous! smile, V.

Someone else on my personal blog pointed out why I might have gotten tripped up on this: it's actually a wool/nylon blend and when is the last time you saw a wool/nylon NON-superwash sock yarn?
I've knit a lot of socks with a lot of different yarns and Amy is right: I don't believe I've *ever* come across a non-superwash 25% nylon sock yarn before. You feel the nylon in there and automatically assume it won't felt, you know? :(
I'm going to write customer service at KP to ask them about this. Not to complain because, obviously, it was my fault, but if they get enough feedback on it they might think about changing it. It just doesn't make any sense the way it is now.
