Apparently we've been bad.

Really really bad.
And our punishment is to suffer the wrath of snow, more snow, and even more snow.

Seriously, wtf is *UP* this winter with the snow?? The snow on the sides of my walkway is now piled up almost as high as I am (5 feet). And it's all come down within the last 3-4 weeks with another big storm coming next week. Anyway................sure glad I work from home so I don't have to deal with it too much. I hate driving in snowy weather. Ugh. :(

It's great knitting weather though because who feels like going out when it's this icky?? I sure don't. It's given me time to go back and watch some of the 234231234 gazillion hours of tv piled up in my TiVo. I had the whole season of Boardwalk Empire to get to and I figured now was as good a time as any since it just won some Golden Globes awards, right? Managed to get through half the season last week and make great progress on two new pairs of ribbed socks, even managing to finish these new ones for my mother (she's so spoiled - that's now TWO PAIRS for her this month!! lol):

This yarn is turned out to be something of a FAIL. Grrr. :(
Listen - I don't mind fraternal socks, I make fraternal socks ALL the time but when I pick out two skeins of yarn with the same dye lot I expect them to match a LITTLE better than this, yanno? One sock is a nice red/yellow/orange/etc rainbow and the other sock.............is just kinda green. I mean - WTF?

HAVING SAID THAT, they did knit up nice and thick and it was pretty cheap, as far as wool sock yarn goes. (Less than $10 for both skeins.) It's the Paton's Kroy sock yarn that you can find at Joann's Fabrics, etc. I assume it's a knockoff of the (MUCH) more expensive Trekking type yarns that look just like this but to be honest, as far as knitting goes, I like the Paton's yarn better. That Trekking stuff splits like a mother and the yardage can be a little skimpy when doing men's socks. So I would use this yarn but I would definitely do a little looky-loo into the inside of the skeins before I bought them to try and match them up better!!!
I found this 'Brady Brunch special' skein of sock yarn at the local Job Lot this week for $2. The hubby said he would wear them if I make them so I bought it and we'll see if it happens. $2 for 75% wool yarn? That's a steal, but these colors are rocking a serious 70's vibe to me (and not in a good way). I hope it knits up better than it looks here. Heheheh.

Ugh..stay warm. Lots of snow over there. I kind of like the colors all wound up but am curious how the stripes work out.

Yeah, I think you all have it worst of all. We have snow piled up high, but not THAT high. lol! Your area has been hit but hard! My area is bad enough. Bleagh. I'm soooooo sick of it!

That's a real bummer on the two socks and how they came out differently. They're still nice though. Hope the new skein does a nice sock or two. :D

I love the color of your socks - the knitted one - but you are right, they are really different. The Lion Brand yarn.... whooo weee, those are going to be fun.

We have been fortunate here - one 3 week session of snow, now its just been cold, but sunny today.

Pretty socks, but definitely a big colour difference. Stay warm over there, I'm glad our snow is gone, at least for now.

When I knit socks with colors...which has been awhile now....I try to make them identical which as you know can be a torture..but I agree with the color difference in that lovely pair...could the dye lot have been marked wrong? they are so pretty though...Magic Stripes usually works up okay...

Your winter sounds like ours last year, Melanie!! Hang in there--short February is just around the corner and then March (and spring!) will be here...

At least you have indoor pasttimes that you love to do :)

I take the weather personally just as you do. Think we will ever see spring? Anyway, at least you have power.

I love the pretty socks. A little mis-matching is no problem.

I have a pair of Lorna's Laces yarn that did the same thing as your Kroy. Same dye lot, same color # -- two VERY different socks. One is most definitely blue and one most definitely GREEN. Weird!

Magic Stripe may have some wacky colors, but it wears like IRON!

LOL! Yes, it seems that everyone is getting snow but us ;o)

Wow, I was surprised when you said it was the same yarn that you used. Oh well...it's just eclectic ;o)

Ohhhh, those should be some very interesting socks. LOL!

HA! Love the "Razor Snow"! We've mostly been having what I call "Sparkle Snow", light, fluffy flakes that don't accumulate much but shine like diamonds when the sun hits them. Looks like our big storm this week will be mostly ice, which is much worse.

I love BOTH of those socks, however, yes, the yarn looks totally different. And can't wait to see the Brady socks - they'll either look great or...eek... ;-)

How very strange the 2 socks are so different from the same dye lot, they do look nice and cosy though

Seriously loving the new yarn, what a great bargain.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to the impending snow storm either! Getting to work tomorrow should be a sheer joy! Let's see how long my 20minute commute becomes... if I can get to the highway safely!

Take care of yourself and snuggle in away from the snow and cold!

I think the socks look great--nobody's going to be super particular about how closely they match, I'd think. ?!

Hang in there with all that snow!
