I may have found a contender to make up for the 'mitt kit' I was drooling over at Stitches East but just couldn't see spending $38 on. It was a vine pattern in two colors of wool yarn, very lovely, but I *know* I could kit something up pretty close to it for much less so I passed on it. (Again. I drooled over it LAST year too. I just like what I like, I guess. lol)
But hellllllllllllo new mitt pattern from the always-wonderfully-delicious Jared of Brooklyn Tweed:

Who needs vine mitts when you can have Herringbone ones?
I was also eyeballing this Latvian Mitten book:
It's $25 but has eleven billionity patterns in it, each one more complex than the next so 1) it should keep me busy for a long time and 2) should be a challenge (I do so love a little knitterly challenge).
It's terribly cold outside and yesterday it actually SNOWED here (enough to stick around too!) so is it any wonder I have mittens on the brain? :)

It snowed or sleeted here too! It's crazy!! Love that Latvian mitten book, and the Brooklyn Tweed one too. I envy you your knittiness. :D
ewwww snow! we've had bad weather, stormy and cold but no snow yet, those mittens would keep your hands nice and toasty warm
Snow?! Yikes! Love those Brooklyn Tweed mittens!
Fabulous alternative! And that book is well worth buying with all the patterns and options you'll have!
Snow's in our forecast too (rain mixed with snow today and snow for Thursday.) It was 77 on Sat and 70's on Sun!!!
Oh-wow! Those patterns are gorgeous! No wonder you wanted the book :o) It makes me want to learn how to properly knit now...
Those patterns look like a real challenge. But what a beautiful product that end up with!
I wish I could knit--those patterns look so fun!
