(And uhhh, one foot might be longer than the other too but that might be because I knit on them when I was really sick. *ahem* I swear the length problem in general was not my fault because he tried them on before I washed them and they fit like a glove, albeit with one a TINY bit longer than the other.)
Oh well. If you're not FAILING, then you're not KNITTING. Just gotta shake it off like a prize fighter and get ready for the next hit. lol Overall it's a fairly easy thing to fix. I can either unravel it back 3-4 inches and reknit the toe entirely or cut the toe off neatly, put it on DPNS, unravel the foot some, and then graft the two back together. I'm usually a champ at grafting so I'm thinking the latter will do it.

You could always donate them to the Circus! Just kidding! I know what you mean about the yarn having a mind of it's own. It's funny, you can knit the sides of the yoke of a sweater one side at a time, and the length is always different, even if you have the same amount of rows. Knit them at the same time and they are fine. Very odd. I like the colors in the yarn that you used for the socks.
Oh bummer! I've never seen that before -- but then I haven't tended to wash knitted stuff much. (I have tried socks yet. I need to.)

You could always use them for gift stockings...why not start a new tradition and have birthday stockings instead of Christmas stockings? Ok...maybe not. Maybe just unravel it and reknit. ;-)
It's upsetting isn't it when you work so hard on a project and then something happens and ruins it. Never mind, as you say, it's fixable right?! They'll still be a beauty to prize ^_^ Virginie
